Designed by YouTube knife reviewer Donnie B All Day, this mammoth D-Guard Bowie is as capable as it’s ancestors before it. A blade that can be wielded from horseback as easily as it could be on foot.
What’s so special about the blade?
Using quarter inch 52100 steel, this true full tang knife features a blade stretching 14” with a 6” rosewood handle for a massive 20” reach. The oversized fuller reduces weight through the center of the blade helping to carry the weight to the front of the swing, making it the most capable chopper you can put in your hands.
Why use wood scales?
The D-Guard Bowie was popularized during the American Civil War. Like the originals before it, this knife uses wood scales for an organic grip and flawless contouring. Using wood also helps for making a perfect fit for the guard to seat closely to the scales.

A State-of-the-Art Bowie
If you like knives, and you are wondering, whether it is worth its price to buy the Old War Bowie - I can assure you it is worth every penny. The quality of the Bowie, the look, durability - everything is exactly like you'd like to expect from this kind of knife. It is just solid, durable beautiful piece of big knife for bushcraft and survival. Moreover, the quality of the customer service is really great. You do not have to be afraid of anything. After placing an order and payment, I was sent emails by KHHI where they were informing me up to time about progress of my order - I was even sent an email just before shippment where they sent me photos of my Bowie crafted. I'll be honest - I wasn't expecting the customer service to be that caring for my knowledge about current state of my order. I really appreciate the fact, that I didn't have to wonder and to be worry about my order. Thank you for that! And at the end - I didn't have to write this review, I could just appreciate my knife quietly only by myself, but I was taught, that if someone's making a great job - it is right to appreciate it and to tell others about it - and that's what precisely these people are doing. A "Dotanuki" Battle Blade
In the famous Japanese series of "Lone Wolf and Cub", the main character carries a large and heavy battle sword referred to as a "Dotanuki" battle sword. The name means "Pierces thick torsos" according to the story and the swordsman claims he can cut his way out of any four walls with that beast of a sword. After unboxing this beast described as an old war Bowie, I put her through her paces. As a fencer, it was instant love for me but a word of warning is warranted here. While you can certainly use her as a camp knife, this beast is closer to a short Cavalry Sword than an actual knife. She's large, thick, sharp and heavy! That won't be a problem for those with actual experience with a sword fighting system such as fencing, but for those that are not, be prepared to feel like your wielding an axe instead of a knife. That's not a bad thing if you're wanting a blade for war. But if you're into camping, there are other suitable options. This baby should be reserved for the big boys who take blade craft seriously. 10 out of 10 for me. Beautiful and stunning.
