Khukuri Made in Primitive Method >> eXclusively available only at Khukuri House
Made in our in-house primitive setup at KHHI by our master craftsmen specialized in primitive khukuri making methods
Khukuri House (KHHI) Nepal now offers Khukuris made through the PRIMITIVE method that was practiced centuries ago in Nepal. This unique making process is very laborious, time consuming and of course requires an enormous amount of skill, knowledge, and patience. Everything is done by hand made by conventional tools through basic equipment and from natural materials only. It is definitely a valuable buy and prized ownership for a lifetime and beyond.
What is Primitive khukuri making? Why it is so special?
'Primitive Making' is an age-old khukuri making method, the way our great grandfathers forged blades without electricity, power tools, and various modern industrial raw materials. Here the making is done entirely by bare hand, sharp skill, basic tools. Moreover, only very old raw materials, tools, and basic homemade equipments (no power tools at all) are used to get the final product.
The Primitive Wing is started to conserve the age-old craftsmanship of blacksmithing. It's completely a Khukuri Conservation Project rather than a commercial purpose & benefit. Moreover in today’s context where machine completely rules why not man and his skill be the domain here.
Why buy Primitively made Khukuris?
Buying the Primitive version is one of the best means to respect the artisans, his skill, and dedication and to support him financially and help to conserve the age-old craftsmanship becoming extinct. This will also help us run the primitive wing, which involves collecting raw materials that are not easily available in the city markets, making & maintainng primitive tools like BHAATI (blower), SAAN (traditional grinding wheel), and others. (Watch on youtube BHAATI making video and SAAN making video)
:: With each khukuri, a buyer gets the following exclusive benefits::
- a full documentary video of the making from forging to finishing
- short videos of the raw materials, tools, and equipment used for primitive making
- the maker’s bio-data and signed document,
- a Nepali national cap (topi), a traditional silk scarf (khada), and an old Nepalese coin.

Welcome to see LIVE making of Primitive Method
Guest or customer is well entertained should he desire to be the part of making and in the process learn a skill or two from the master. We have tried our best to set up a typical outlook of Kami’s house up there in the hill so the visitors can feel the ambient and warmth of the classic environment. One can also lay his hand in sharpening a dull khukuri under the expert’s eye to get the hang of the making as a part of basic survival skills. A visitor can also find various backgrounds, materials, articles, things, and paintings exhibited that have close ties with the khukuri and its making in our Primitive Making.
