Official service khukuri issued to the British Gurkhas Soldiers 2022 recuirts
We are very proud to present BSI 2022, the official kukri to the soldiers of 2022 – 23 (till Feb 2023).
The recognition of a Gurkha, be it as a common man or a formidable soldier, is incomplete without a khukuri. The extra ordinary bond between the two that is so powerful and sometimes emotional has come a very long way carving out historic significance, national pride and invincible consequences all along the way. It has been in the hands of Gurkhas since the British first discovered these amazing people from Gorkha. This continues even today and the BSI kukri offered here is a part of the association which has been a standard Gurkha military customary and heritage.
Out of thousands of applicants for the year 2022-23 only 218 new men were selected by the recruiting officers under four stages of selection processes (rounds). The attestation parade or famously known as the “Kasam khane” parade ceremony was held in Feb 2022 in BGP (British Gurkhas Pokhara). The new recruits have already flown to Catterick, UK where they will be do a 39-40 week long hard training course before they are finally called Riflemen. After that each soldier will be assigned to various regiments of the Brigade of Gurkhas according to their performance, ability and interest.
BSI 2022 kukri is given to each soldier sometime after 3 months of their training phrase. It would be retained by the soldier throughout his army career and beyond with utmost care and honor. A kukri in which a Gurkha has so much faith and pride.
Here two models of BSI are given to the recruits and KHHI produces the both, so please leave a message which one you prefer
- No.1 (Duty/ Parade version) fully polished blade, handle, and shiny patent leather sheath
BSI Service #1; Full Polished with Shiny Patent Leather Sheath) is objected for duty, parade and ceremonial events only. It is a dressed knife that a Gurkha carries in his belt when he is on duty, on guard, in parade drill and in special army events. It is always worn in the center back of the waist. The kukri and sheath both have to be highly maintained for cleanliness and shininess. It is regularly inspected by senior officers in an army event called “Khukuri JaanchPass” where soldier draw out the blade and submits the blade to the inspector.
- No 2 (Jungle/ Training version) semi-polished blade, handle, and regular traditional style sheath
BSI Service #2; Unpolished with Dull Leather Sheath) has its blade identical to no.1 except it is fully unpolished objected for rough and tough usage. It is what we call as the "Fight and Field Knife". A Gurkha carries the kukri for training, exercise, in jungle and even in war. The knife is mostly worn in the right side of the waist. Sometimes soldiers camouflage the sheath by an army green coarse fabric. This to conceal the kukri into nature and also to protect the khukuri from rough carriage. BSI service #2 kukri can also be replaced by other models preferred by the carrier but on his own.
The Price is only for 1 Khukuri, by default, KHHI will send the no.2 version, as its a more practical version for day-to-day use. To buy both please make quantity 2.
Here you must know that over the years (since 1980's) the same khukuris with the same style, profiles, and the making process has been issued over and over although some light changes were felt amongst the issues (not intended) due to all knives being handmade (made by different makers) and made by various suppliers (contractors) in various places.
KHHI follows the same profile and guidance provided by BGN to make the official service models. Some of the previous popular BSI models sold by Khukuri House are
- 2019-20 BSI Service Kukri (Current Issue)
- 2016-17 British Standard Issue (BSI #2)
- 2009 Service No. 1 (British Gurkhas Ceremonial)
