KHHI Kamis - The Makers
KAMIS (BlackSmiths); The Born-Makers of Khukuri
Bladesmith at its pinnacle...
KHHI has always led the way and this is yet another outstanding way to show how we do simple but special thing that really matters. KHHI enhances its production system by introducing a new concept of giving a face to a product by introducing its maker. With this new initiative, each khukuri will be shipped along with its maker's bio-data with his signature and thumb print so that the buyer can know about the maker of the knife which he ordered. He can get an up-close glimpse of the maker and perhaps share a special bond with the knife and its maker in the process. The buyer can admire at his knife and appreciate its maker for all his hard work, skill, time and sweat. Please note that the maker's initial is either engraved in blade (near peak) or in handle (on rivet).
Benefits of introducing the maker are:
- Since the maker's name is on the line he will work harder to deliver better as a result quality gets higher
- Buyer will know who made his knife and can pick the same maker to make all his knives (Favorite Maker)
- The buyer, the knife and the maker may develop a special bond and get emotionally attached
- The maker can be tracked should there be something wrong/weakness in the knife, even at later stages
- Buying gets interesting for buyer and maker gets motivated to making as the whole process of acquiring a knife from an unknown source has a face and identity to it
- Donating becomes direct and easy

“Support Our Kamis” is a program that we have undertaken to uplifting the living standard of the Kamis (Blacksmiths). It aims to provide them with the basic needs that they have no or limited access to. However it is an enormous task and KHHI alone cannot support the Kamis and work for the betterment of their status. Hence by working hand in hand and combining our efforts we can make a difference in providing them a chance for a better and prosperous future.
Kamis (Blacksmith) are a minority community of Nepal. They are often neglected and ostracized by Nepalese society because they are considered to be among the so-called lower castes. Despite their friendly behavior and artistic skills, they have been victims for generations because of traditional myths, blind faith and social stigma. They certainly do not deserve this kind of treatment. They also have right and freedom to live their lives to the fullest like any citizen of the country. The future generations of Kamis must have an opportunity to reach out beyond their world, make a decent living and most importantly get much respect for what they do. Otherwise it is our belief that there would be no makers, no khukuri and soon our beloved khukuri would get lost amidst time, negligence and business. We therefore seek for your support and understanding in this endeavor. Let us unite and fight to remove the barriers and hardships that the Kamis have been enduring and give them a chance to better their lives. You can make a very great difference in helping to change their lives.
KHHI also promises that any fund or donation WILL NOT BE MISUSED. All the money collected in a month will be invested in the “Support Our Kamis” fund and spent for their benefit.
